Benefit POREfessional Primer ($32) is the primer that introduced us to the category, and it gets the job done. It's a basic translucent pore-filling primer that smoothes out the skin and mattifies shine. But for $32, there are definitely superior alternatives now.
The
e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer ($9) is the primer that literally broke the internet. It's an all-rounder primer that minimizes pores, smoothes out skin texture, grips onto makeup, and still retains moisture (formulated with squalane) - for only $9. A lot of people also think it's comparable to
Tatcha's Silk Canvas Protective Primer ($52), minus the packaging of course.
The trick to using the e.l.f. putty primer though is to take out only a pea size amount, warm it between your hands, press onto the skin (very important), wait for 30 secs before putting on the rest of your makeup. If you apply too much, it could appear cakey and interfere with other base products.
A little goes a long way, even for this $9 product.
