The More Affordable and Cruelty-Free Dupe for the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

Cleansing balms are oil-based cleansers that start as a solid and transform into oil. According to Susan Yara, they tend to cost more because oils are some of the more expensive cosmetics ingredients. Although  this has changed since cleansing balms have become more popular, which led to higher demand and lower prices for oils.
The ($38) is the OG cleansing balm. It is a basic cleansing balm with a simple formula, but it cleanses well without leaving any oily residues. The $38 price tag, however, is more reflective of the brand than the product itself, at least in today's beauty market.
The cruelty-free and more affordable option we recommend you try is the ($11). It has a similar white balmy texture formulated with sunflower seed oil (identical to safflower seed oil). The formula also has the three ingredient trifecta, glycerin, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid to maintain skin barrier health and hydration.
When you melt it onto your skin, it feels more lightweight than Clinique's. It removes waterproof makeup without irritating your eyes. Do note that it has a slight citrusy scent - not fragrance-free. Even though it doesn't leave any oil residues, we still recommend you to double cleanse.
Here are my two cents on cleansing balm. As long as the oil doesn't clog your pores (e.g. coconut oil), it's better to have an affordable cleansing balm you would use liberally to cleanse your face well, than the pricey one you savor every bit and leave your skin not properly cleansed.
